You Decide Who Can Reach You

Not everyone wants open DMs. New messaging privacy controls let members set who can message them directly, with a message request system for people outside their network.

Five Privacy Levels

Choose the level that's right for you:

• Open — anyone can message you
• Community Only — only people in your communities
• Mutual Follows — only people you both follow
• Contacts Only — only approved contacts
• Closed — nobody can message you

Message Requests

When someone outside your privacy level tries to reach you, they can send a message request. You see the request and decide whether to accept or decline — the sender doesn't know your decision unless you respond.
